Westfield, (NY) -The Chautauqua-Lake Erie Wine Trail, the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, and the Lake Erie Concord Grape Heritage Association, organizers of America’s Grape Country Week, August 15-23, are pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Great Grape Race, the scavenger hunt intended to raise awareness about the area and its agricultural history. On Saturday, August 22nd at Moore Park in Westfield, the winners were selected by blind drawing from the qualified race forms submitted to wineries during the week.
Prizes valued at over $1700 were awarded. The Grand Prize Package - A Taste of Chautauqua - which included a 5-hour limo tour in wine country (Chautauqua Limousine), a Discovery Passport from the Wine Trail, overnight at the William Seward Inn in Westfield, and dinner at Sapore Wine Bar and Restaurant, Westfield was awarded to Philip Zimmerman, who was visiting the area from Lititz, PA near Philadelphia. The Grand Prize Package for Youth – an overnight and ski package from Peek n’ Peak - was awarded to Anne LaPorte.
Tom Franco, from Jamestown, declared the Race a great promotional event during which he “became a tourist for a while”, met some wonderful people, and visited businesses that he had driven by all his life. He added that it was the best $2 he had ever spent and that he would never have found the Nass Daylily Farm in Westfield nor enjoyed pie at Jack’s in Barcelona without the Race as an incentive.
